The Conference will be held at Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 25th until 27th September 2018.

INTAC KL 2018 with the theme of Urban Trees: Safety, Resiliency & Sustainability will serve as a forum for like-minded stakeholders to discuss, deliberate and share knowledge on the issues of managing tropical trees in urban areas within the context of their sustenance and the benefits while keeping them safe and healthy.

Dr. Ahmad Ainuddin Nuruddin, is currently the Director of the Institute of Tropical Forestry and Forest Products (INTROP), Universiti Putra Malaysia and also a Professor in Forest Microclimatology and Fire Management at the Faculty of Forestry, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He obtained both Bachelor and Master degree from Ohio University, USA and Doctorate in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin State University, USA. He has been a certified arborist since 2005. Currently he is active in forest fire and urban forestry research. He has published many articles related to urban forestry and has been invited to present his findings in Copenhagen, Denmark and Guangzhou, China. He has also involved in several consultancy projects related to arboriculture such as tree risk assessment and development of landscape masterplan.

He is currently members of Malaysian Society of Arborist, Institute of Forester Malaysia (IRIM), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Society of American Foresters (SAF) and International Society for Agriculture Meteorology (INSAM). Internationally, is member of Council of Representative, International Society of Arboriculture. He was the President of Society for Malaysian Arborist (PArM) for two terms.


 

Dr Noriah Othman

Dr Noriah Othman is a Senior Lecturer at Centre of Studies for Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying (FSPU) at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam and has been lecturing at UiTM since 1990. She obtained her Bachelor and Master’s degrees at University Agriculture Malaysia (UPM) and her doctorate degree in Landscape Horticulture at UiTM. Dr. Noriah involves actively in research in the field of environment-behaviour studies and had presented papers in various conferences and contributed several articles in research journals.

She has been regularly invited as speakers related to landscape horticulture by local authorities and other agencies, as working committee for plant standard by SIRIM and occasionally involved as horticulturist in several Landscape Master Plan by local authorities and National Landscape Department. She is a certified arborist (CA) and a tree risk assessment qualified (TRAQ). At present she also holds the position as Head of Quality Unit at FSPU and Lead Auditor of ISO 9001:2015 at UiTM.


 

AP Dr Osman Mohd Tahir

Associate Professor LAr. Ts Dr. Osman Mohd Tahir, has been actively involved in the field of landscape architecture since 1984. Currently, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Design and Architecture, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the Immediate Past President of the Institute of Landscape Architects, Malaysia (ILAM), Vice Chairman of Asian Landscape Architecture Society (ALAS) and the Chairman of the Dean Council for the Built Environment, Malaysia (MDAB). Concurrently, he is an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture in the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Design and Architecture UPM. He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture Science from the UPM; Master in Landscape Architecture and Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainable Urban Landscape Management from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. He is a Professional Landscape Architect and a Professional Technologist. He is the Group Leader for Sustainable Practices in Conserving Environment (SPiCE) and Landscape Plant Research Group (PLPRG).   He previously served as the Editor in Chief for Nature Yield and Wonders of Art (NYAWA), Sustainable Tropical Environmental Design Exhibition (STEDex), Landscape Bulletin and the Malaysia Landscape Architects Awards Yearbook.

Dr. Osman currently is an International Scientific Committee for Asian Journal of Environment-Behaviour Studies (ajE-Bs) and Journal of ASIAN Behavioural Studies (jABs). He has been invited to deliver keynote speeches and to speak on numerous occasions including national and international conferences, seminars, forums and dialogues. He has published numerous indexed journal articles, books, book chapters and conference proceedings and involved in various landscape planning, design and development project consultancy. He frequently appears in media discussing issues and ideas related to landscape architecture and sustainability, regularly elected as the panel jury for various landscape related awards, accreditation panel for Malaysia Qualification Agency and often appointed as an external examiner for postgraduate thesis examination.

Dr. Johari Jalinas is a biology lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He completed his PhD in Universidad de Alicante-Valencia, Spain in 2016. He worked on red palm weevil field management and behaviour with Acoustics and GIS for his PhD. He published ISI papers and presented his works with acoustic detection of red palm weevil. Currently, he is coordinator for MSc Entomology program in Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

En. Rosslan Yaacob is currently the President of Malaysia Society of Arborist (2018/2020). Graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Bintulu in 1989 with Diploma in Forestry. He   continued his studies at UPM in Serdang for his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from 1989 to 1992. Upon graduation, En. Rosslan started his career at Syarikat Ganda Makmur Sdn Bhd as Trainee Officer for 3 months. He was then promoted to Forest Officer until 1993. His career in Syarikat Ganda Makmur ended in 1994 when he was upgraded to Forest Executive. Desiring to be more involved in research and development, he became a Research Officer at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), in the Urban Forestry Unit, for one and a half years until 1995. He was mostly exposed to project handling during his tenure as Project Officer in the FRIM – KLIA Lanscape Unit and was in charge of the KLIA Landscape Project for two and half years until 1998 with a project value of RM9 million. He then came on board of TropBio Forest Sdn Bhd as a Forester and since then he is in charge of the Taman Rimba Alam Project in Putrajaya as Resident Forester and is responsible for managing the Source and Supply Contractor, and Planting Contractor for the projects.

During the duration of his career, En. Rosslan attended several courses including the assessment procedures in using the Malaysian Criteria, Indicators, Activities and Standards of Performance for Forest Management Certification (MC&I (2000)) on 16 – 20 September 2002 and Training Programme on Requirements for Chain-of-Custody Certification (RCOC) on 30 March 2005 organised by Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC), also member of IRIM since 28 June 2003 (AM037), presenter for Landscape Courses organize by Forest Research Institute of Malaysia in collaboration with PROSEA and lectured in Forest Landscaping courses for Unit Latihan Perhutanan, Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia. He was also trained and attended the 1st Arborist Certification Programme in Malaysia on 24 May – 23 June 2005 and being certified as “certified arborist” by International Society of Arboriculture (USA). Also being certified in Tree Climbing and Chainsaw Safety Course at FRIM on 25th – 26th January 2007 and also attended Safe Working at Height Course Comprising of : PPE Appreciation, Inspection and Storage, Fall Protection Systems using Full Body Hardness and Energy Absorbing Elements held on 24th March 2008 recognised by IRATA . He also involved with teaching in arboriculture short course with several local municipal councils, Training Institute of Ministry of Housing and Local Government since 2011until now.

Saad Nyan worked in the Faculty of Forestry in 1981. Member of Arboriculture society in Faculty of Forestry. Attended several courses in the field of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Responsible for forest survey laboratories, engineering laboratories and GISlaboratories.He also attended a conference in the field of Arboriculture and currently conducting post graduate for data collection and practical student in Arboriculture, Survey and GIS.

Dr. Ahmad Said Sajap, a certified arborist since 2005, formerly a Professor of Entomology at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He received his Bachelor of Science from University of California, Davis and doctorate in entomology from Iowa State University, Ames. He joined the Faculty of Forestry in 1978 as a lecturer and served as a head department and a deputy dean for several years.

He has a vast experience in forest and landscape tree insect pests, biological control of tree insect pests including pest diagnosis and management of termites. He has conducted a wide range of research on insect pest management with research grants from national and international agencies. He has published more than 100 articles in refereed journals and written two books related to insect pests of landscape trees and termite management. Apart from various consultancy projects over the years from various agencies and committee member on forest protection in the Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia, he also worked as a national expert on termite management project at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM).

He has been a regular resource person for International Society of Arborist (ISA) certification program. He is an active member of Malaysian Plant Protection Society (MAPPS) and Entomological Society of Malaysia (ENTOMA). While serving as the MAPPS’s President, he was appointed as the Chairman of the 4th Asia Pacific Conference of Entomology in 2001.

Norhizam Yunus has served in the Council for 18 years. He is a member of Arborist Society of Malaysia and corporate member of Malaysia Landscape Architect Institute. He is commonly invited to give a briefing and talks by government agencies in Klang regarding local landscape management. He also presented a paper on landscaping compensation assessment techniques in development in Klang.

He was appointed as a Star Rating panel for the Klang District hotel by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia. He is also a Certified Energy Manager from the ASEAN Energy Management Scheme (AEMAS) and appointed as Energy Manager at Klang Municipal Council. He has been leading innovation groups in conventions in 2011, 2012, 2013 and the latest in 2018. He currently heads the Division of Research and Landscape Assets Control, Department of Parks and Recreation, Klang Municipal Council. Today he will share with us his experience in implementing his latest project with the community in Klang.

Hashim Gombri is a founder and Managing Director of Hashim Design and Associate Sdn. Bhd., HG Arbor Services and Urban3Solution.com Sdn. Bhd. He has been member of Institute Landscape Architect Malaysia since 2000, and has been practising as a Professional Landscape Architect ever since. He also became a Certified Arborist in 2012 and lifetime member of Persatuan Arborist Malaysia as well a member’s of Malaysia Storm Water Management Organization (MSMO).

He has been actively involved in Eco-hydrology design, Urban Design, Township Masterplan Design, Life Asset Management System, Urban Trees Risk Assessment research, Urban Tree Forensic Study, Urban ecosystem preservation and conservation as well teaching on arboriculture practise. In particularly his interest is in Urban Storm Water Management System, Erosion and Sediment Control, Eco-hydrology, Establishment of Urban Green Infrastructure, Tree biomechanics research and presenting seminar papers. He has also developed a Tree Risk Inspection Management System (TRIM) under Urban3Solution.com Sdn. Bhd., for risk monitoring and controlled system at early stage of plant installation and establishment until asset disposal.

Noriah Mat graduated with Master of Landscape Architecture with emphasis in Ecological Planning and Urban Design from University Of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA in 1992. She prior obtained her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Business Administration (Dual Major)from Utah State University, Logan, UT, USA in1990. She became a Certified Arborist in 2009 and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector in 2012.

She served with Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) for more than 18 years from 1998 to 2016 and last held the position of Director of Parks & Recreation at the Department of Landscape & Parks. While at PPj, her main responsibilities were executing planning, design, construction and development of the City of Putrajaya. She was instrumental in the formulation, development and implementation of Landscape Management System and Landscape Information Management System for Perbadanan Putrajaya contributing to Electronic Submission system for Landscape Plan Approval (ES) and Tree Inventory & Management System (SIPP). She was an appointed Building Commission Officer from 2007 under ACT 663 Building and Common Property (Maintenance and Management) Act 2007.

In 2014, Noriah was awarded Anugerah Bintang Johan Mahkota Wilayah (JMW), Darjah Keempat Daripada Darjah Kebesaran Yang Mulia Mahkota Wilayah by DYMM Yang DiPertuan Agong; Anugerah Felo ILAM by Institut Arkitek Landskap Malaysia in 2013; Malaysian Landscape Architecture Award (MLAA) for Perbadanan Putrajaya – 12 Awards, between 2010-2016; LivCom Awards, Unesco; Bronze Award for Community Gardens of Putrajaya for Perbadanan Putrajaya (2012); Panel of Assessor for Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Award (MCIEA) by CIDB (2011-2017); Anugerah Khidmat Cemerlang by Perbadanan Putrajaya in 2008; and Golden Key Honor Award and Sigma Lambda Alpha Honor Award by Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, USA (1990).

Fariza Firdaus is a Certified Arborist from the International Society of Aboriculture USA. She is the founder and principal of Raintree Arborist Sdn Bhd. She is a landscape architect and a corporate member of Institute of Landscape Architect Malaysia since 2003 and has been in the landscape industry for more than 17 years. She graduated from University Putra Malaysia with a Bachelor and Master in Landscape Architecture.

Being one of the first Qualified Tree Risk Assessor in Malaysia, she has assessed more than 5000 trees throughout the country. She is also the first and only ISA Municipal Specialist in Malaysia. Her interest in tree appraisal, tree risk assessment and urban forestry makes her the first Malaysian speaker in 2017 International Arboriculture Summit in Hong Kong and 2018 ISA Annual International Conference in Ohio, USA.

Beside her focus in business and continuing studies, she is also active in industry based society. She is currently an elected committee member of Persatuan Arborist Malaysia (PArM), active member in Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia and Ex-Honorary Secretary for Kelab Alumni Senibina Landskap FRSB UPM.


 

En Adnan

Adnan Mohammad obtained his Msc in Landscape Ecology, Design and Management from Wye College, University of London, UK and currently is a Senior Research Officer at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). His first position at FRIM was as nursery officer and then he spent more than 2 decades doing R & D in the field of urban forestry and arboriculture. He is currently a program leader or curator for Kepong Botanic Gardens and his focus is on ex-situ conservation of endemic and threatened tree species. He was spearheaded MyBGnet, a newly formed Botanic Gardens networking in Malaysia.

He has great passion in arboriculture and was responsible for the introduction of Arboriculture Certification Program in Malaysia started in 2005, the program that is much sought after by many tree care practitioners today. He was also one of the co-founder of PArM. Adnan Mohammad is still active in undertaking various consultancy services related to park planning and development, tree installation, transplanting big trees, tree inventory and assessment and tree conservation for various clients. He shares his vast experiences to the people in tree care circle either in private or in government sectors as resource person for training and workshop on tree maintenance and management. He believes there is a lot more that is need to be done for Malaysian arborists to increase their professionalism in order to gain respect and to contribute the best to Malaysian gardens and cities.


 

Puan Ruhaila

 Ruhaila Abd. Rahman graduated from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland in year 1997 with Master in Landscape Architecture. She is ILAM corporate member since 2000. She is also a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) with the National Recreation and Park Association, USA in 2016 and a Certified Aborist from the International Society of Aborist in 2017. Previously, she worked as a newsdesk reporter with the New Straits Times and Landscape Architect with Morphosis Design. Ruhaila currently work as a Landscape Architect with Sepang Local Council and has 20 year’s experience in planning, design, construction and development in the municipalities of Sepang.

Jamalludin Budin started his career at Perbadanan Putrajaya since 2004 as an Assistant Director with responsibility to managing landscape maintenance at Boulevard and Promenade Putrajaya. Obtained his arborist accreditation certificate from ISA in 2013 and is assigned to carry out the work of maintaining amenity trees in Putrajaya area until 2015. Currently assigned to the Garden and Recreation Division and is responsible for implementing the planning and development of Parks in Putrajaya.
